ISU RECYCLES
The Salvation Army and Goodwill gear up each spring to receive usable items during the spring move-out time frame. The Department of Residence is partnering by providing 6 on-campus drop-off locations for the collection of items. At each location during the last 3 days of finals (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday), box vans will be parked and ready to receive "stuff" from students. The vans need to be staffed from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. daily so that "junk" is not left at these sites and that others do not come in a take donated items for their own use.
It would be ideal if groups of volunteers or organizations adopted a site and staffed each day, all day. When each van becomes "full", the Department of Residence will provide contact information for drivers to come get the items delivered to Salvation Army or Goodwill and return the van to the drop-off location.
There will be 2 drop off locations in Union Drive, 2 in Richardson Court, 1 in Frederiksen Court Apartments, and 1 in SUV Apartments. Please list your preference for 2 locations as some may get spoken for early.
This is a "pilot" project that we hope to expand for next year. Thanks to all who have provided suggestions and participated in this kind of endeavor in the past. We believe this comprehensive approach is a positive step toward better stewardship of our community.

FOOD DRIVE
The Department of Residence, ISU Dining, and potentially some student groups will be partnering to collect unopened, non-perishable food items from students during spring semester move-out for delivery to 2 food pantries. (Volunteers will inspect food donations to make sure they have not been opened and have not expired before taking them to the pantries.)
There will be 12 collection points on campus where containers will be located and signed. A volunteer will collect from each location and make delivery to the respective food pantry.
To Bethesda Food Pantry: Friley Hall Desk, Martin Hall Desk, Eaton Hall Desk, Helser Hall Desk, Wallace Hall Desk, Buchanan Hall Desk, Frederiksen Court Community Center (Frederiksen Ct. Comm. Council has volunteered)
To MICA Food Pantry: MWL Commons Area, Linden Hall Desk, Oak/Elm Hall Desk, BWR Cornerstone Area, SUV Community Center.
Bethesda Community Food Pantry Contact: Roy Hougen and his wife Pat (232-6188) are the coordinators. They prefer to have items in bags when brought in. Preferred drop times are: Wednesday, May 7 (afternoon), Thursday. May 8 (morning), Friday, May 9 (anytime) Saturday, May 10 (morning), Monday, May 12 (afternoon). Their facility is located in the Bethesda Lutheran Church at 1517 Northwestern Ave. Enter the west door of the north wing.
MICA Food Pantry Contact: Lindsay Cook, Food Pantry Asst Coordinator (956-3333). Food can be dropped off Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5 pm. Their facility is now in the basement of the Richmond Center and assessable by a driveway between their building and Lebeda Mattress. They have carts available to bring the food into the building.
The food drive will begin with the delivery of the containers and signage the Friday before Dead Week and conclude with the Saturday of Graduation.
