What is Emerging Leaders Retreat (ELR)?

Emerging Leaders Retreat is an overnight, off-campus retreat  for sophomore (second-year) students interested in building leadership skills.  ELR 2011 was held on Friday, October 14-Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Des Moines Y Camp in Boone.  The 2012 event will be held on Friday, October 19-Saturday, October 20, 2012.

Who attends ELR?

Sophomores who want to be leaders on campus and in the community! If you are involved and want to build the skills to take the next step to be a student leader in GSB, of an organization, residence hall, group, etc. this retreat would benefit you!

Why should I attend ELR?

You will have the opportunity to build relationships with current and future student leaders at Iowa State, get advice, and learn and enhance many of the important knowledge and skills that leaders on campus need to be successful!

How do I apply?

Applications for ELR 2012 will be available in August 2012.

What do you look for in an application?

First and foremost, take some time to put effort into your application. The amount of effort put into each essay answer is very clear, and is important to be able to attend ELR. Students should be able to reflect on experience and have a basic idea of what they hope to gain from this retreat, and how they will use it to enhance their leadership experiences at Iowa State.

I am currently a student leader (Junior or Senior in Fall 2012), how do I become a facilitator for ELR?

Email elr@iastate.edu if you want information for next year!

What is the cost?

Emerging Leaders Retreat is a FREE event for students sponsored by Student Activities Center and Government of the Student Body.
