The Iowa State University Alternative Breaks program places teams of students in
communities to engage in service learning during university breaks. Students perform
short-term projects for community agencies and learn about various social issues.
The mission of the Alternative Breaks program at Iowa State University is to provide direct service opportunities for students so they may experience diverse perspectives, learn about social issues, and grow as life-long active citizens.

This year's trips will focus on rural and urban poverty, children's issues, Native American issues, and disaster relief/environmental issues. Also, a fraternal relevance trip will be offered through the Office of Greek Affairs.
Trips will cost about $200 per person. This cost includes transportation, lodging, and meals. Food during travel, excursions/sightseeting, and souvenirs will be paid by the participant. Payments will be made in up to 4 increments. We do not want the cost to be a deciding factor in whether or not you take a trip. Please contact us at altbreaks@iastate.edu with concerns.
Applications are now closed. We thank everybody for applying and their interest in Alternative Breaks. We will be in contact with those that applied soon. If you were not able to get your application in, we hope you will reconsider applying next year.
