Trip Information
We are excited to announce that there will be 3 Alternative Spring Break trips for 2010!
The Alternative Breaks program has been a great success and is now in its fourth year at Iowa State! The Student Activities Center is excited you are interested in being a part of Alternative Breaks. We are looking for enthusiastic students who are really committed to volunteerism and service. Students should have a true love for Iowa State University and an interest in showing their CYCLONE SPIRIT to the rest of the world through giving back to the community. Our selection process will be competitive based on the online application, an interview day, and any other requirements as-needed. Completing the application does not guarantee you an interview. This process may be altered at any time, though you will be informed of any changes.
If chosen as an Alternative Breaks participant, you will join a team of 8-10 other students and be expected to attend weekly meetings to prepare for your experience. You can expect to spend time learning about the organization, the social issue and the work you will be doing once on site. There may also be other group activities such as a pre-break service project, fundraisers, and other events throughout the year. The cost of your Alternative Break trip will not exceed $200 per student. We do not want a lack of funds to be the reason you cannot participate, so please let us know of your situation, and we will make arrangements if possible. If you are excited about devoting a week of your college life to service, having a great time and forming lasting memories, you’re the perfect person to go on an Alternative Break.
During Spring Break 2010, you could have the opportunity to learn about current social issues and make a difference:
Enjoy the scenery of the Appalachian Mountain while helping the nation's poorest people.
Work side-by-side with people affected by depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia on 300 acres of serene countryside.
Travel with a group of dedicated peers to help eliminate substandard housing.
Application available now! Apply by Friday, Oct. 30 at 5pm!
